Welcome Challenger Families!

  Welcome Challenger Families!

We hope that the first few weeks of school are treating you great so far.  This year not only are the students going to be going through some “changes” this year but so are we!  Challenger has always had a PTSA (Parent Teacher Student Association) which follows under the guidelines of the National PTA rules and fees.  At the end of last year the question came up if this was the best option for OUR students and Staff members here at Challenger.  After some discussions, talking to families and staff and looking at pros and cons, the idea of switching from a PTSA to a PTO was decided.

What is the difference?  The biggest difference is the membership fees.  When a group is under the PTA, they have to pay dues per member.  For Challenger last year, this was a total of over $1,600 that we sent directly to the PTA.  Being a PTO, we are not under any National Association and do not have to pay any membership fees.  That means, your entire membership of $10 per person, goes directly back into the school.  Same with any donation we receive, it will go back into Challenger and help us fund teacher mini grants, after school club, Nurses fund, Marine Day and much more.
